Babies, children and young people's experience of healthcare

National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) -
This guideline recommends ensuring children and young people are fully informed about their health so that they are empowered to take an active role in their health care. It emphasises the need to provide children and young people with clear and accurate information which can be tailored to an individual patient’s level of maturity and understanding. It recommends that information materials should be developed in partnership with young people and presented in a range of formats using words and images.

SHARE: consent, confidentiality and information sharing in mental healthcare and suicide prevention

Department of Health and Social Care -
The SHARE resource has been developed by the Zero Suicide Alliance. It is designed to support health and social care staff on: how to use the Department of Health and Social Care’s (DHSC) consensus statement for information sharing and suicide prevention; and how to engage with patients when discussing confidentiality and consent to share information. The DHSC consensus statement sets out how and when clinicians should share information about patients, within the legal framework, where this may help prevent suicide.

What support do nurses and midwives qualifying in the age of Covid-19 need?: insights from UNISON members 2021

UNISON -
This report finds that more than two thirds (70 per cent) of students or newly qualified nurses and midwives believe they have missed out on important learning experiences during Covid. The findings also show more than half (56 per cent) of final year students worry they’re not as prepared for qualification as they should be. The report calls for the government and NHS leaders to give greater support to the newly qualified health staff.

Reaching the tipping point: children and young people's mental health

NHS Confederation -
According to this report, many children and young people will be left without vital mental health support unless the Government goes further to invest fully in services where they are most needed. It lists the Covid-19 pandemic as a factor as it brought with it uncertainty and anxiety caused by the lockdowns, school closures, isolation from friends and peers, bereavement and loss, and extra stresses and pressures on families.

Organ donation and transplantation data for Black, Asian, mixed race and minority ethnic (BAME) communities: report for 2020/2021 (1 April 2016 - 31 March 2021)

NHS Blood and Transplant - 

This report provides information related to organ donation and transplantation within the white and Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities in the UK. It finds the Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the numbers of living donor kidney transplants that could be performed. In 2020/21 there was a comparable drop in both White and non-White deceased donors, but a 61 per cent decrease in the number of BAME living donors, compared to a 58 per cent drop overall.
