NHS women on boards: 50:50 by 2020

NHS Employers -
This report examines the steps the NHS needs to take to reach the target of equal gender representation on boards by 2020. It summarises demographic data from 452 organisations, including arms-length bodies, NHS trusts and clinical commissioning groups. It has been published in conjunction with NHS Employers and NHS Improvement.

Public satisfaction with the NHS and social care in 2016: results and trends from the British Social Attitudes survey

The King's Fund -
The British public’s satisfaction with the NHS remained steady in 2016, according to the data contained in this report. The findings from the British Social Attitudes survey, carried out by the National Centre for Social Research between July and October 2016, show 63 per cent of people were satisfied with the NHS. The change in satisfaction since 2015 (when it was 60 per cent) is not statistically significant. Satisfaction remains high by historic standards, but is seven percentage points below its peak of 70 per cent in 2010.

Review body on doctors’ and dentists’ remuneration - forty-fifth report 2017

Department of Health -
This report sets out the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration's (DDRB) analysis of evidence given by relevant organisations and makes proposals for doctors’ and dentists’ pay and associated issues in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. In this report the DDRB provides independent advice on the pay of doctors and dentists in the NHS to the: Prime Minister, Secretary of State for Health, First Minister of Scotland, First Minister of Wales and First Minister and Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland.

Informed choice? Giving women control of their healthcare

All Party Parliamentary Group on Women's Health - 
This report has found that across the country women are not being treated appropriately when it comes to their physical, mental and gynaecological health. Using a survey of over 2,600 women and freedom of information requests, the report highlights the need for improvements in the quality of care for women with fibroids and endometriosis in particular.

Innovation in regulation

Department of Health (DH) - 
Following on from a commitment in the government’s productivity plan, the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) and the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) have published documents showing how their approach to regulation supports innovation. These documents set out how the UK regulatory framework is working effectively to support innovation and disruptive business models, and how regulators are using innovation to deliver their own work more effectively.

Childhood obesity: follow-up

House of Commons Health Select Committee - 
This follow-up report on childhood obesity in the UK argues that the government needs to take more robust action to tackle the impact of deep discounting and price promotions on the sales of unhealthy food and drink. In relation to the child obesity plan, the committee welcomes the measures announced on sweetened beverages but highlights that greater action on several key areas could made made the strategy more effective overall. The committee will continue to follow up how the money from the sweetened drinks levy is distributed.

A year of plenty? An analysis of NHS finances and consultant productivity

Health Foundation - 
This report finds that the NHS used almost half of the £2bn real terms increase in funding it received in 2015-16 to commission care form non-NHS organisations and to support the social care system. The report also highlights that the focus on meeting rising demands for emergency care means that NHS hospitals are receiving lower financial returns which is making it increasingly difficult for NHS trusts to break even.
