Securing the future workforce supply: general surgery stocktake

Centre for Workforce Intelligence (CfWI) - 
This review, commissioned by Health Education England (HEE) and the Department of Health, is designed to inform decisions on the number of general surgeons likely to be required to meet patient demand up until 2029. It assesses the key drivers of workforce demand and supply for general surgery and estimates the future number of certificate of completion of training holders that would enable current levels of services per patient to be maintained to 2029.

Suffering alone at home: a UNISON report on the lack of time

Unison - 
This report is based on an online survey of 1,100 homecare workers and data obtained from a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to 152 local authorities in England that commission social care visits. It reveals that 74 per cent of councils in England are commissioning 15 minute home care visits, in contravention of NICE guidance which states that visits shorter than half an hour should only be made of visits are part of a wider package of support and allows enough time to complete tasks and check on patient wellbeing.

Briefing on the findings of the Confidential Inquiry into premature deaths of people with a learning disability

Mencap -
This research found that 1,238 children and adults die across England every year because they are not getting the right health care. This statistic is a national estimate based on the findings of the Confidential Inquiry into premature deaths of people with a learning disability. The key recommendation from the inquiry team is for the establishment and funding of a National Learning Disability Mortality Review Body in England which would allow for the continued collection of mortality data for people with a learning disability and investigation of the most serious cases.

Rules of engagement: lessons from PANORAMA
