This evaluation report looks at a programme which aimed to enable clinically based project teams to implement a strategy for developing, changing and evaluating practice to reduce and prevent healthcare associated infections. It identified clinical leadership; effective strategic support; clinical team involvement; and use of practice development methods as key to successfully reducing healthcare associated infections.

This study looks at examples of innovative practice across England and shows how midwives are leading on improving services for women and families and generating savings. It concludes that it is possible to deliver high quality, safe and effective care when midwives are engaged and lead on innovation and emphasises the important role that clinical leadership plays in enabling innovation and improvement to take place.

Joint Strategic Needs Assessments (JSNAs) and Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategies (JHWSs) – draft guidance consultation

This guidance outlines the statutory duties of CCGs and HWBs in relation to JSNAs and JHWSs; how these documents fit in the new health and social care system; and how they will enable improvements to the health and wellbeing outcomes of local people. Views are being sought on this guidance to ensure that it is clear and fit for purpose in supporting health and wellbeing boards in undertaking JSNAs and JWBSs from April 2013. It is also an opportunity to seek views on what further supportive materials health and wellbeing boards would find useful in undertaking JSNAs and JHWSs; which the Department of Health can work with sector-leaders to develop. The consultation closes on 28th September 2012.

Collaboration between registered providers and NHS trusts: building an asset

Under the healthcare reform plans, the NHS is being asked to save £20 billion from their budget. In order to achieve this, NHS is actively exploring ways in which it may dispose of land it owns that is now surplus to requirements. This briefing is aimed at those involved in developing extra care housing and how they can better engage in the process of the sale of NHS land due to come to the market in the next few years.
