The future regulation of health and adult social care in England - response to consultation

This document is the Government’s formal response to the November 2006 consultation document The future regulation of health and adult social care in England. The consultation response: 

• reaffirms the Government’s vision for regulation
• summarises the main themes we heard in response to the consultation
• outlines the organisational roles and responsibilities for each of the seven regulatory functions identified by the consultation document
• reinforces the Government’s commitment to establish a new integrated health and adult social care regulator by outlining the roles and responsibilities for the new regulator, the Care Quality Commission.
