The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the National Collaborating Centre for Primary Care have published a guideline for the NHS in England and Wales on referral guidelines for suspected cancer. The NICE referral guidelines for suspected cancer update the previous guidelines from the Department of Health published in 2000. The guideline includes a comprehensive section on the support and information needs of people with suspected cancer, with an emphasis on facilitating patient involvement in decision-making about referral and further investigations.(NICE - press release)
