Nuffield Trust -
The Mayor of London has developed six tests to apply to major health care reconfiguration programmes in the capital, designed to ensure that major changes are in the best interests of all Londoners. The Nuffield Trust has been involved in supporting the development of these tests, and the Mayor commissioned the Nuffield Trust to undertake a review of proposals by North Central London Integrated Care Board to consolidate maternity and neonatal care services within its geographic area. This report sets out the Nuffield Trust's assessment of those proposals against the first four of the Mayor’s tests.

NICE has launched a public consultation on our new approach to prioritising guidance. It includes: the establishment of an integrated prioritisation board (this will use a common prioritisation framework to decide priorities and coordinate delivery); the development of a common prioritisation framework (this will apply to all topics and products considered by NICE in a consistent and transparent way); and the development of their strategic principles for public health, social care and rare diseases. The consultation closes on Thursday 4 April 2024.

This report finds that thousands of women, children, and families have been harmed by these two medical interventions — valproate and pelvic mesh — and that there is a compelling case for the government to award them redress. The report recommends the government creates a two-stage financial redress scheme — an interim scheme to enable the identification of all those harmed ensuring patients receive financial redress quickly and a main scheme.

This guidance outlines how the Secretary of State directs the Health Services Safety Investigations Body to conduct investigations into the deaths of patients and/or potential mistreatment of patients during periods of inpatient care in mental health care settings, during transition to or from other health care services, or immediately following the discharge from such inpatient mental health care services.

This guidance (published with NHS England) sets out how integrated care boards (ICBs) should approach and address a request from an individual or third party, for an assessment of a previously unassessed period of care, from 1 April 2012 onwards. It also provides information on how to request an assessment and how that assessment should be carried out. Previously unassessed periods of care refer to specific requests to consider eligibility for a past period of care where the individual funded the care themselves, either in full or in part.
