This is a report of the House of Commons Health Select Committee
annual accountability hearing with the NMC. The committee found that the
NMC should work harder to protect patients and the public and that
patient safety has not been the priority for the NMC over recent years.
Whilst it highlights a backlog of fitness to practice cases, the report
also acknowledges a change in leadership at the NMC and an ongoing
committment to addressing the failings of the organisation.
