The majority of diabetes-related amputations are caused by a 'foot
attack' (a foot ulcer or infection failing to heal). People who have
rapid access to treatment by a specialist multi-disciplinary team have
experienced faster healing and fewer amputations, saving money and
lives. This report recommends the promotion of the commissioning of an
integrated footcare pathway through the Putting Feet First campaign. It
also sets out recommendations for Clinical Commissioning Groups and
Health and Wellbeing Boards on how to achieve this.
