This document outlines the Department of Health's response to its
consultation on proposals to transfer functions from the HFEA and HTA to
the Care Quality Commission and the Health Research Authority. Taking
into account the feedback from stakeholders, royal colleges and private
organisations, the department has decided not to pursue a transfer of
functions at this time. However, an independent review into how HFEA and
HTA carry out their functions will seriously consider the feasibility
of a merger of HFEA and HTA.
