This study, commissioned by the Department of Health from Price
Waterhouse Coopers, found that measures such as text messages for
communicating negative test results, electronic prescribing and
electronic patient records could improve care, allow health
professionals to spend more time with patients, and save billions of
pounds. It cites examples of good practice from across the UK, and
estimates that £4.4 billion per year could be reinvested in improving
care by making similar use of information and technology.
